Why do you want green wood? Dried basswood and pine are easy to carve and not as likely to crack and check as green wood will. Basswood logs with the bark on also start to rot very quickly. |

Something to think about ... The cost of the wood in a project when factored in against the time spent carving it is very small.

Check your local listings for saw mills. Or do an internet search for them. I did a quick check and there are many - I'm not sure which is close to you. You're not going to find much difference in the prices, so going local is the best way to save as there is no freight. Your problem is trying to get green wood. Woodcarving suppliers will most likely only have dried wood (air or kiln). As mentioned before, the green wood will split (check) during drying. IF you must have the green wood, the saw mill is your best bet. Bass is native to Pennsylvania, so you should be able to find some. |

Why is the 'cheap wood' request under 3 different topics? The same people read these? ??? : |
