Default Devil's club

Someone ask if I have ever carved Devil's Club. I have made walking sticks from many Southern woods but not that one. I know it has some nasty thorns on it. Has anyone used Devil's Club?
Thanks

Isn't that sometimes referred too as Devil's thorn or black thorn

I have seen 1 but never tried to carve one of them

That's the one. It grows nice and straight most of the time. Once in a while you'll find a vine curly on one.

I've carved it with a knife but not with power, yet. It is softer than sasafras. I wondered if anyone else from the south has tried it and what they thought of it. It does have a pithy core like red sumac but the wood itself looks good. Whittler
