Hi everyone, I was wrong yesterday when I said I didn't want anything; I have a question... What do you all think of as the Best Carving shows in the country. I'm in the process of putting together my travel budget for the next fiscal year and want to get out and introduce myself to people. I know in the past, we've neglested the west coast, and I'd like to make it out that way this year (and hopefully get to meet some of you in person that live on the other side of the mississippi ![]() Let me know what you think! Thanks in advance. Bob

Hey Bob I believe one of the best shows in the southwest is the Desert Woodcarving Show and Sale. It is held in Mesa, AZ. which is a suburb of Phoenix. Draws a pretty good crowd, with both carvers and spectators. The Show is February 19th and 20th at Mesa Centennial Hall 201 N. Center St. for more info you can contact Walt Blackmore carversoasis@yahoo.com or Mel Donaho ruthmel@earthlink.net PaPa

There's a pretty decent one in Fredrickburg, TX. If you decide to go I might even head down that way for a visit. You'd probably want to give yourself some extra time to see some of the other sights such as the Admiral Nimitz museum. Oh yeah, about 6 or 8 miles south is Luckenbach which is worth a visit also (if you can find it, people keep stealing the signs).

Hi SLIVER that is the best show here as far as i'm concerned. it is a wood sculpture competition, also this year it is being run in conjunction with a general woodworking show: furniture, turnings, intarsia, toys, scroll saw. this year we are having seminars: Chip Carving-Sheila Hunter Woodburning-Sheila Hunter Harris Hawk Head- Bob Comeau Stylized Carving- Christopher J. White Christopher is also one of the judges who has won many awards including Best of Show at the International Woodcarvers Congress. It is a fun 2 days with many , many tables of carvings to be judged and many tables of carvings for sale as well as tools and such. also a guy from Minnesota comes in with a truck load of basswood, butternut , and diamond willow sticks-bark on. also aspen sticks. hope that helps . there are a few smaller shows during the winter but this is the big one. The show in Bellville, Il was huge and crowed, I didn't care for it much, but I guess if you're into 'wood carving malls' it would be a good one for Carving World to look into, they claim to be the largest show in the mid-west.
