Some folks may not see ship modelling as carving, but there is a tremendious amount of carving involved. Apart from carving the hull of a half model you can get into carving the detail on a model. Here is some on the model of H.M.S. Shannon (38) I'm working on...the scale is 1:96, so the carved work is pretty small.

Thanks James. Progress is slow, but it is coming along. Last few planks to go on the quarterdeck soon, but I'm questioning my own plan....cause nobody will ever see the detail in the captains cabin! I'll know it's there and you too....but once the planks are on, nobody will see that nice Cherry desk, chair, dry sink and wine cooler....to say nothing of the checkered floor. Of course they could look in the windows, but...!

The quarterdeck detail is really outstanding, the capstain alone has 44 pieces making it up and a second capstain is attached to it on the deck below, also as detailed. I have some of the quarterdeck guns in place, but many more to build yet. I'm proud of this baby.....three and a half years and counting. Maybe another three and it will be complete. Still doing some Celtic Knots too, for a light change and I'm at a half model of a New Brunswick built ship too. Lots of variety.
