Thanks for all the responses to my thread on woodspirit carving. I finally figured out how to post pictures on http:/www.picturetrail.com and I have posted three pictures there. Picture #1 was last June when I was invited to Campbell River on Vancouver Island British Columbia to the Shoreline Arts carving competition on the beach at Campbell River. I was honoured to be invited to a gathering of some of the worlds best carvers. I went out strictly for the chance to carve along side them. I want to tell you if you ever get the chance to go out to Vancouver Island be sure to take in the competition you will be amazed at the talent of these carvers. It is a week long celebration, you are given a seven to ten foot piece of Douglas Fir and you are to complete your carving in five days. When the contest is over the carving is donated to the town to display along the sea wall and in other prominant areas. To date there are 120 plus of these huge carvings is is a site to see. The other two pictures are of a commission I did in an 18 ft Sugar Maple that had been damaged severly by a storm. I have other pictures of other carvings if you are interested I could post them from time to time. Again thanks for letting me be a part of the group I am enjoying reading all the threads and I am learning a lot and thanks for all the great responses again. ![]() |

* * Wow Colin, that is one huge carving, great work! *What a sight that display must be to see. *If you get a chance, take a picture of it and share it....along with any others of your work. *We all love seeing pictures!! * * Great to have you with us, I totally agree about what all you can learn here. *Like some others have said, this is my 'carving club' and I have learned so much from it's members, not to mention just plain enjoying their 'company'!! *Callynne
