Default POSSIBLE VIRUS

Has anyone else had problems with their homepage being changed??

Everytime I go on this website, my homepage changes to something called ewebsearch and I get about 8 adult websites added to my 'favourites' folder.

I only get it after I've been on this message board. I won't be on here much until I figure out how to get rid of this, but I'd be curious to know if anyone else has this problem.

Chris.

Chris,
Sounds like you may have a problem and it is probably a virus. It could have come from anywhere not just from this message board. There is a worm virus that is running through the system now that is causing a lot of problems there is protection you can get for it through 'Best Buy' for about $20 to my that is a no brainer for all the aggrevation that this thing causes.
Good luck
Colin

I haven't had that problem, but I've received some upgrades from Microsoft that are related to the worm or virus. My Norton caught a bad e-mail yesterday, and I've seen some that were obvious fakes that had extracted parts of names from my address book. If there were a problem with this site, I'd get a pop-up from Norton right now!

Another thought on bad sites. A long time ago, I was looking for Woodcraft's site and spelled it with a 'k', instead of a 'c'. That site dumped a load of junk and one of the dialers that took a couple of years to ge rid of! It didn't do anything, since I have a cable connection, but the e-mails and bookmarks were pretty bad.

Yup, it hit here yesterday; ewebsearch. Kept popping up and I kept closing it, but eventually it worked it's way into my hard drive and dumped about 7 porn sites (and some pretty gross ones, at that) onto my favorites list. I took about an hour yesterday afternoon and cleaned the whole mess out, and now it seems they have all gone to the land of lost junk!

And I hope they STAY there!

Al

AL,

I seem to have fixed the problem. It was a hijack program that was somehow activated every time I came to this website.

I downloaded a program called 'Hijackthis' which gets rid of Hijack programs like the one we had. If it comes back, try downloading it (type it in google and you'll find it) and you just select all the files that appear to be related to unfamilar websites. I had the same thing as you, dumping some sick websites into my 'favourites' folder. >

It's a shame that these sick people have to ruin the internet for us that use it as a learning and communication tool.

Chris

Hey Chris, glad to hear you found a solution (and shared it with all of us!). I figure that's what was going on last week when I kept getting that pop-up thing I asked about. Evidently my virus protection kept it from getting into my computer.
I did get a 'malicious script' warning again earlier this week so our trouble maker is still at work. Too bad, too much talent wasted on bad things in this world!
Anyhow, glad you don't have to stay away, we'd miss you! Callynne
