Default Canvasback duck

Hi,
I gotta hurry-up project. I went to a carving workshop over the weekend to carve a canvasback duck. I need to have it textured, burned, etc. by this coming Saturday since we'll spend the day painting it.

Has anyone noticed any articles on canvasback ducks--lately or otherwise. I thought Wildfowl Carving had one several years back, but I went through about 8-10 years of issues and didn't find it. THen I thought WCI had something awhile back, but I haven't found it yet either.

I'm needing to get a good look at the feather pattern on the chest and tail/rump (top and bottom) before I start texturing...size of feathers and directions, etc.

Thanks for help from anyone who remembers seeing anything specific....

Here are some pictures that might help. There is a hen and a drake. Good luck.

Donna, I thought I owned every duck carving/decoy book available and I've been searching through them. I've found lots of photos of canvasbacks but they're b & w and fuzzy so no good for scanning. And I can't find ANY nice patterns showing good layouts of feather patterns.
Maybe you'll have better luck asking for help on the Decoy Carving Forum ?

Click on the 'Forum' icon on the upper left hand side of page to get to the message board. Good luck. And I wanna see a photo of the finished product.

Thanks everyone for the help. I got the duck carved, detailed, and 3/4 painted. It's not looking too bad! The reference sites helped, but I wanted to share something I found out--you may already know it but it was a 'awwwhhh' moment for me.

Wildfowl Carving magazine, which is probably the premier publication for bird carvers, has a web site where you can search for past articles they've had in their publications. Much faster than having to flip through 10 year of magazines!

Sure wish WCI and Chip Chats did that too. WHen I start thinking about carving something new, I want to look at what others have done and what basic patterns there are available, so I start digging through old carving and reference materials---this would be tremendous time saver!

Just wanted to share this bit of info. :

DonnaT, Glad you have gotten that far with your Canvasback. Hope you are recovering nicely from your surgery. I have ny days with the wrist. Maybe that I am still trying to do to much with it. It lets me know when I need to give it a rest. Ny little bride says I am doing way to much with it. I believe she is right but don't tell her I said so. Don't want her to get the big head. :.
Anyway, a speed recovery Donna.
