Hi Everyone So far things are moving slow, but they are moving. The shop is still in the process of being set up. Painting has begun and the service panel is in and equipment is being wired. Weekend classes have been held with good results but there is a long way to go yet. My Grandmother is back in the hospital so the next two weeks will be a little difficult for making more progress. I have heard that buissiness at my old location is very poor. I guess I am lucky I was able to get out when I did and find someone to sublet. I have commited to doing a very large carved bed. This will be king sized with carved posts and headboard done in Maple. I will post pic's of the progress. Thats all for now. Sorry for not being around much, but as things start falling into place I should be able to visit more often. Dale |

This is a much better location. It is on a very busy street and is on street level. There is much more space for classes and the ability to use power tools. The area I am in now is also the largest city in the Ozaukee county also the wealthiest. In all I am looking forward to this new venture. I also know it will not be an overnight success but I have more positive points at this location. Take Care Dale |

Dale, May I echo the sentiments of all the others sometimes getting established can be a hard grind not to mention relocation. It seems like you have a very positive attitude and that will go a long way to your sucess. All the best nice to have you back Colin |

Dale, do you have a catalog? Can you send me one? If not, what type of carving tools are you going to be carrying? You can PM me if you want to. Thanks.

Actually I don't think I will continue with selling tools. The carvers in my area are pretty much content with the tools they have and catalog sales are more involved than I would like to get into. The focus for me will be one of a kind carvings, carved furniture, mantels, and classes. What I have leaned from the old location is that I am not comfortable being a salesman. I am however a craftsman who's shop is also a showroom and classroom and I'm more comfortable in jeans and workboots. I have had a few people come by the new location and they have told me they feel more comfortable as well talking about and seeing projects in a more shop oriented enviorment. In spring I will put signs out on the road entrance inviting people to stop in and have a look. I think getting away from the gift shop setting will be a way to let buyers know that everthing in the showroom is all handcarved or built by actuall craftsmen and not mass produced imported items. Thanks for your interest! Dale |

I think you are right Dale, I for one get awfully tired of taiwan and chinese plastic! Yesterday we went thru the local home show and I took one of my walking sticks...you can't believe how many people ask me about it and I was able to give cards out to! You might do an 'all out' walking stick and start carrying it with you, will get you and the shop some needed attention! In addition I had put one of the 'ball ' compasses on top and everyone got a kick out of that, wanted to know if I was lost...I told them it helped me find the home show! LOL |
