Trying complete a portrait of my granddaughter. I am trying it in PSP9, CorelDraw9 (PhotoPaint), and Coyote. This version is PhotoPaint9 as I am following his video tutorial. Mostly having trouble with the eyes. I would appreciate any advice/direction on the overall pattern. Thanks

So far the pattern looks great. One thing I would do as a first step is take all the background out and then convert it to a pattern then go back and draw in the eyes. From my experience with a bunch of different programs, the eyes and nose are the hardest parts to do. I sometimes do 4 or 5 different stages of just the eyes then pick the best one and apply it to the final pattern. Hope this maybe helps. It looks ok like the way you've done it so far.

Thanks for the critique Chris. Removing the background first - basic 101 - I forgot. Others portraits on this site have been a big help also.

Paul, The first thing I would do is correct the picture. This is a terrific picture once it has been adjusted. I'm not familiar with the programs you are using but one of them should have a levels adjustment. I use PSE6 and the drill would be: go into Adjustments, Levels and move the light and dark sliders to 246 and 68 respectively. Move the midpoint to 1.29 (these are approximate). At this point the light and dark area are better defined. Here is the adjusted photo.

Thank you Tony. Your work has provided me with a little better concept of what I am trying to achieve. Learning the programs and converting a photo is time consuming but certainly satisfying when it turns out.
