Default My first inlay project

One of my best friends from school and his wife (also from our graduating class) stayed with me last weekend for our 20 yr. high school reunion. As a gift to her, I made this tissue box.The inlay is maple ply, oak ply, and lace wood, and the box is walnut ply. They loved it, but I hope the next one doesn't have so many mistakes! I finished spraying it with only a few hours left before they arrived, so there was not much I could do about the splotches on the walnut. I think that is where I accidentally smeared glue on it while putting it together. The inlay was fun to do, but I had a few problems on it also. Overall it was a great learning experience, and my table saw cutting is improving ( it actually glued up with no gaps or high/low sides )

Almost forgot, the dragonfly pattern was by Jacob Fowler from the August 2006 issue of CW&C.

Stunning! Great job for your first one. Looks like you've been doing them for a while.

Nice job Scrollpup, I find inlay very difficult to do, but as they say practice, practice, practice. Now that you've wet your feet, will you be doing more inlay projects?

Hi WD. I have a wall sconce from that same issue I have to cut and the toucan project laying around somewhere, but yes, I had fun doing it. I might try to dig up the issue with the inlay coasters like Denny posted a few months back and give them a go.

Nice job, Jerry. You did really good for a first time. I would probably have to start over a few times, HA. No, I'm going to try it myself pretty soon. It really looks nice & inspires me to move it up on my calendar. Perk

Nice work!!! I especially like the contrasts you used in the wings.

Now that you've gotten your feet wet, I'll be betting that you'll be doing more.
Inlay is like potato chips. You can't stop at one, heheheh.

Anyway, can't wait to see future projects, Great stuff!!!
