I definately spray on a finish when ever I can. Generally I use polycrylic. I know it is water based and raises the grain a little. But I like being able to use my sprayer without too much hassle for clean up. A little sanding between coats and I am good to go. DG Dewalt 788 |

There are times when I don't finish something - when I make things out of aeromatic cedar - when they need cleaning, a light sanding.

I generally apply a finish of some type to all my pieces, but have on occassion left them natural. Not sure what you mean when you ask how we clean up the piece. I would just sand it as normal, brush/vacuum/blow off the dust, then wipe it down with MS or denatured alcohol to clean it thoroughly.

I finish all my pieces with either Formby's tung oil finish, Minwax oil base poly or Minwax water base poly. I clean them with a small make up brush and vacuum.

I don't always finish a piece. I know it is frowned upon by some but there is something about a natural aging patina in some woods that I really like. Other times I will use a tung oil or salad bowl oil. I like using the oil finishes on 3d puzzles. I also like to use waterborne urethane. I dont like the cleanup that goes along with solvent based finishes.

The wood, I finish, normally with BLO. Now, ask my wife and you'll find that with the work around the house, I prefer not to finish. ROTFL

I like to use a finish on mine, normally, it is oil, or deft, or Polly . I love sealing the wood so it doesn't absorb moister. and easier to clean. your friend Evie
