Default Lang Clock variation

After 6-7 months out of the shop (health reasons) I finally got down and made some sawdust. I've had my eye on the Lang clock since it was published, and a co-worker's upcoming wedding was the excuse to build it. I did use some variations though. Sue Mey's fretwork dial went on instead of a store-bought one, and instead of a contrasting wood for the inserts I decided to try ebonizing the oak. The thing I liked about that was that the color wasn't solid - it left streaks of the oak grain visible. One other thing I did was make sure the circular cut-out of the underlay body panel was big enough to get the dial out of. That way I didn't need to waste it or use another piece of wood (I tend to be a little frugal with my wood ). Here's what it looks like, and if you want to see some other pictures I have them here.

Hey Bruce,

I really like the clock... I'm sure it will be appreciated.

Thank you for sharing

Nicely done Millwab, I like the ebonizing effect also. Looks like a winner to me.

Thanx Rick. I sure hope so. She has no clue it's coming, so the surprise effect will be on my side.

Appreciate it WD. I like it enough to do it again, but even after studying it ad nauseum before starting it, I learned some things that I would probably do different the next time. There's no substitute for hands-on experience.

Great work on the clock Bruce. I have used Sue's dial pattern a lot.

Bruce! It turned out great! With that dial it looks very nice. And, since you are a frugal woodworker, making it this way left you with very little waste didnt it.I was just thinking the other day to ask you how it was coming. Congrats, it looks great! And thank you for finding that design worth your time and materials !
