I have downloaded gimp , and was wondering what I have to do first to make a pattern from my granddaughters portrait. I want so much to scrollsaw her portrait to put in a frame I made. Any help would be great . i know this sounds like a crazy question , but don,t know where to go from here.....

yup, the classes that Travis did was a big help to me. They are about 15-30 minutes long each and there are 8 of them. Village University • Scroll Saw Village Here is a link to the classes. Good luck and have fun with it. I am about to do my second pic with it. |

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know how I take a downloaded Gimp program from a pc that is connected to internet and take the downloaded CD and put it on a pc that is not hooked up to internet in my garage for scrollsawing patterns, and make it work.

| Behave Yourself..I can't. |
You just have to copy the program to a cd and install on the other computer....for a clean version you might just download straight to a clean cd right from the gimp site.

why dont you just go too the pattern request section, and post a picture you want too make the pattern of and see if someone else can make the pattern for you, working with gimp, you dont get instant results, you need too spend a bit of time practicing on it.i have been using gimp for a bit but i am still not ready too use a pattern i have worked on yet.

CJ, I'd second Tony on this. Besides it gives our pattern designers something to do

Well I design allot , but on the other hand I don,t want to be dependant on someone else. You don,t learn if you don,t do. Everytime i need a pattern , i don,t want to have to bug someone else about making me a pattern. They learned to do it , and I know I can to...Thanks for the suggestions......

Cj1 You also might download Inkscape and follow their tutorials on making a pattern from a picture. I think this program is more specific to what you want to do. It's free to! The example they use is William Shatner (Capt Kirk of Star Trek) You can substitute your picture. I'm in the process of doing this using instead a picture of a friend of mine. Pete |
