Cool All My Time

Hello Everybody,

I am so sorry for not commenting on all the FANTASTIC Work posted in the past 3 weeks...To all that posted Great Job!!! and for sharing.

I have been so busy that I'm not sure what day it is most of the time...
been remodeling 2 houses...trying to finish my own home...trying to finish my new shop...2 deaths...and this huge church project.

Anyway these plaques are for the church members that are over 70 years of age (except the pastor) and will be given to them at a special dinner in their honor. There are 11 here but I made 13 total...one was given to the family of a member that lost her battle with cancer before she got it...and the other I messed up cutting the pages in the sides and had to make another in its place.

So here they are...
The wood is Aspen 3/4" thick
Cut to general shape then sanded it actual shape...
routed the sides with 3/4" round over bit...
Then sanded the sides and the front/back...
Traced the picture of the church (Actual Pic of the church)...
Then burned it into the wood....
Then traced the wording and then burned that into the wood....
Then cut the grooves into the sides to simulate pages...
Then sanded it all and stained with Natural Stain...
Then finished with shellac...
I had to do the whole process 13 times...about 15 hours per plaque maybe more.
Not something I really want to do again, but I gained valuable experience in all the steps.

Let me know what you think
Rick

Hi, Rick.

Those really look great! You can tell that a lot of work went into that project. I'm sure you'll have some happy recipients. Well done!

Now that you've finished that big job, it looks like a couple of those deck planks could use some attention.

What a cool idea, I did a musical not with the Church logo for members of our Choir who had 50 years or more of service.

Now we know why you've been too busy to post. Let's see: 13 plaques X 15 hours each= some big number and that's a long time pardner.

Looks great and I figure the mistake you made was not noticible by anyone but you and you just couldn't stand it and that's why the do-over.

Truly good work Rick and I'm sure there are some hugs and handshakes in line for you.

What a nice thing to do, and beautifully done also. That's a good excuse for not posting for a while. Let's see...13 x 15 / 8 hours per day to work on them = 24 days!!!!!!! That's dedication. Thanks for sharing.
