I finally finished it. Plaque is 1/4" BB ply and lettering is 1/8" BB ply. The hook and ladder is 1/4" maple segmented, and the hydrant is cherry stained with red oak and segmented. I used a paint pen to do the edge of the plaque. It measures 23" x 23". I decided to leave the lettering natural baltic birch instead of painting them. I will be contacting our postmistress tomorrow, who is in charge of the community center/fire station to place it there. |

It is really beautiful Merle. A real outstanding job of cutting all those word as well as all the other parts that make it up. You can be rightly proud of the work you did. Very well done. Thanks so much for sharing.

G'day Merle, That's a glorious piece mate. Excellent job on the whole thing, the way it came together and the colour, and of course the patience. How about knocking out something a bit substandard so I don't have to think up new ways of saying Great Job.

It turned out nicely. I do think if the letters were colored some, it would be much easier to read, but, then again, seeing it in a photo is nothing like seeing it in person, but just my thoughts. Otherwise, i think its outstanding.

Merle, That is a beautiful piece of work, but after seeing your clock I would have expected nothing less. You are a man of GREAT talent. When does the clock go to the fair again? |

Thanks for the comments all. The clock goes to the fair July 19th. Dale, I asked for opinions on that in the WIP and got no answers. Thought of doing them with a silver permanent marker. I probably should have stained them. I didn't want to stain the backer because the birch comes out blotchy looking. |
