Hey all, Just thought I'd share a scrolling (to show I haven't sold the old Yellow thingy) It's a rooster I made for my neighbour's birthday. She loves roosters so... Baltic Birch rooster, Spalted curly maple base. BLO & Wax I used my Vdrum sander and partially sanded thru some layers to give the different shades. Looks great! ![]() Rooster - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Photo Gallery And here is a pendant I made in spalted maple. Finish is Walnut oil & wax. Scrolled the outline then shaped on Oscillating spindle sander ![]() Spalted Maple Pendant - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Photo Gallery Last edited by Marcel in Longueuil; 04-18-2009 at 07:32 PM. |

Thank-you all, I gave her the rooster at the party tonight and she loved it. Henriette, Would you believe I made it? I had a cord of wood for the fireplace, and I put a tarp over it, letting it breathe at the bottom somewhat. I left it alone for over a year, and found out that I had actually done the right thing to get spalting (I was just trying to keep it dry). I was lucky in that it didn't go too far in the process and I ended up with beautiful spalted wood: maple and even some birch. Some of it is spunky, but nothing cyanoacrylate won't fix. I'll also stabilize some for turning. Here is an article on spalted wood you might enjoy. The author also tells you how to make your own. Not all came out as beautiful as the pendant, but more than I expected did. I have many beautiful pieces that call for my lathe and other projects.
