Hi everyone, This is the latest project. It is found in 'Wildlife Collector Plates for the Scroll Saw' by Rick & Karen Longabaugh. It is slightly modified as I used a different rim. The rim is 1/4" Mahogany and the inner plate is BBP. I used picture frame matting as the backing. The finish is two coats of tung oil and three coats of polyurethane clear satin. It is approximately 8 1/2" diameter. Comments welcome. |

That looks great!! I have a collector plate almost ready to start cutting..I have the wolf one pattern all glued to my board but then I wasn't sure about how the rim was to be cut..Did you cut it as one piece or two piece's then glue together? I have planned to use 1/4 BB ply and then walnut for the rim.. Thanks for showing this..it makes me want to get mine cut now.. Kevin

Hi Kevin, Thanks for the comments. This is my second plate. The first is a 7" mini plate. The mahogany is one piece. I thought of plywood, but the BBP should keep the solid wood from cupping. |

Great job on the plate Denny. I like the woods and the color contrast.

"Comments welcome".... How about absolutely beautiful. Not to mention the subject is my favorite bird. And a question? Do you or anyone else have a pattern for the plate stand? Thanks, Pat

Nice work Denny, the original pattern for the plate is more complicated to cut. Kevin, you are supposed to make 2 copies of the rim and join together at the dotted lines and then attach pattern to your material and cut. Merle |

Hi everone, Terry, thanks for the comment. I wasn't sure about the color of the mahogany. I thought it might be too red but it finished with a nice color. Pat, thank you too. The plate stand pattern is in the book I mentioned in the start of the thread. There are two patterns in the book, one for the 9 inch plate and one for the 7 inch plate. Evie, thank you too. There is a framing shop in town. I piccked up some matting scraps and it made a great backing. Can't beat the price. Merele, thank you too. Yes, the original rim pattern is a lot more complicated and that is why I chose this rim. Actually, I like this one much more than the other one. Thanks for clarifying the procedure on the 9" rim. |
