Default One cutting, 2 versions

I stack cut 1/4" oak plywood and 1/8" Finnish birch plywood. Disappointed as to how dark the oak turned when I applied clear, satin tung oil finish. The oak has a stained 1/8" luan backboard, the birch I painted the luan backboard.

I like both. The colored one really pops.
Perhaps for the darker one, you could paint the Luan backboard black. It would create more contrast.

both are excellent work.

I do like the oak one much more, and I think a black background on it would make it look even more betterer, and you wouldnt think the oak was to dark then either. Great cutting. Dale

The cuttings are great. I think the oak one is awsome. the only thing is, I would have added some orange, and purpale and blues. stricked across the sky, and the ocean, background, like a sunset look . they are nice for sure. your friend Evie

G'day Mick,
I don't know which one I like best. I do know I like them both.
The subtlety of the Oak one is rather appealing.

These are both very nice. I would also change the background on the oak one, make it darker and for sure you'd like it better. The painted background on the birch one is sweet. You did great with both

Thanks for showing us both styles, they both have merit.
Much of it is personal preference, but you can sure see the difference between the two.

It is like looking at the same scene on two different days. The top is obviously a beautiful sunny day and the lower one a a stormy foreboding day with storm clouds brewing. There is a different beauty in each.

Just a matter of perspective

Nicely cut, Mick. I like the use of colour on the top pic. I think the other needs more contrast between the oak and the luan backer - I'd be inclined to go with black as others have already said.

Too late to change the color of the backboard on the oak picture, glued the cutting to the backboard. Thanks for all the comments. Will use a water base finish on oak from now on.
