Padauk dust gets into the pores of aspen like you wouldn't believe, so I had to keep them separate.

This project uses the same top as the "fertility goddess", but the base of the padauk bowl that I posted a while ago. Right now it looks like a terra cotta pottery piece, which is really cool. I think when finally shaped and lacquered it will be really nice.

I desperately need to build a tall press for vases--my current setup is just a bit precarious.:eek_old:

I still need to cut a top ring, but I have to create a new pattern for what I want. The picture shows the rings cut and stacked, but not yet glued. I need to do the glue-up in stages so I... The picture shows the rings cut and stacked, but not yet glued. I need to do the glue-up in stages so I can access the inside. I started the glue-up today, so maybe tomorrow I can do some more work on it.

I think it should be really nice, but won't know for sure until the sanding is complete.

It also had a pretty good bow in it that made some interesting cutting.. A little time with the sanding mop and a finish and it should turn out ok.

The first pix is section 1 (base), sect. 2, sect. 3. Second pix is sect. 5 with top floor and dome frame. Third pix is of base sect 2 and... I started this 2 days ago cutting the carcass and today the floors, tomorrow I will build section 4 and install carriage bolts to hold each section together. The first pix is section 1 (base), sect. 2, sect. 3. Second pix is sect. 5 with top floor and dome frame. Third pix is of base sect 2 and sect.3 with floors temporarily stacked. Last pix is of some floors and pillars for section 4. I used 1/2" cabinet grade plywood for the carcass and 1/2" walnut for the floors, I will round over the edges of the floors with my router. I have to get some 1/4" walnut plywood for the "skin" on the carcass and some 1/8" maple for the overlays. Walnut ply is not cheap. The pattern is from Wildwood Designs.
