They are gifts for my friend and his wife.
The turtle is Sylvia's pattern that I modified to put my friends name inside. He loves turtles. It is a coaster, about 7 inches long and about 4 1/2 inches high, made from 1/2 inch poplar and cut with a Seyco platinum no.5.
The Thanksgiving pattern is from Jody Smith. It is a trivet about 6 inches around cut from 7/8 inch red oak with a Seyco platinum no. 7.
The coaster will get two coats of Deft satin spray. The trivet I plan to leave unfinished to age naturally (is that a bad idea? I've never made one before but thought the finish might not stand up to the heat).

The pix is as old as me, it was taken in 1942 of some coal miners. It measured 26 1/8" long by 8" high. The frame is of 3/4" maple and finished with semi gloss Deft spray on. I attached 2 screw eyes and wire for hanging in the back. He is supposed to pick it up in the morning. All cutting a rabbeting done on table saw.

This group helps and aids people who have lost loved ones due to Cancer . These Ornaments will be given away as door prizes in a drawing at the end of the December meeting/supper service . My wife is a member and of course she ask the president last year if I could make something for the groups drawing for 2009 and of course the answer was yes . Well here are the Butterflys , tell me what you think > and before I forget it Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas to all my fellow scrollers and you too ladies................Marshall

The woven baskets we had been using didn't last very long, so that was my motivation for this project. I designed it while building it. I also designed the scoll pattern myself (for better or worse). It isn't very well done compared to the work I've seen so far on this site, but perhaps it will be a useful to measure my development as I post new projects. Thanks for looking.

She droped it off yesterday and I was able to repair it. This is an exact scale copy 1 inch = 1 foot of her grandmothers kitchen hutch except for the hinges made from 100yr oak out of an antique desk I pulled out of the trash. Everthing is mortis and tendon the drawer is dovetailed the screen mesh on the upper doors came from an air filter out of a car

Angels are Volker Arnold design, candles from a Fox Chapel Christmas book, cross by Arpop, bookmarks and Christmas tree are mine, and I'm ashamed to admit I've deleted the e-mail with the buffalo pattern--so I can't give some kind member of the board his due credit. Oh yeah, "We the People" designed by Thomas Jefferson.

And this doesn't include the swap ornament because it's still a secret.

Just wanted to show you what I have been up to for the past week. My wife & I designed these gifts from Christmas ornaments that I'm sure most of you folks will recognize, I don't know who the artist/designer is, so I can't give the recognition they deserve, except for the Nativity pieces, they were borrowed from the Sue Mey Nativity Cross, THANK YOU SUE, I hope you approve.

The boxes are made from Cherry, Teak, Oak & Birch plywood, and will be presented with a votive candle and holder, and a LED puck light from the dollar store, the recipient can light the box with either.

We are leaving in the morning (5AM) for New York and Thanksgiving holiday with the family, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE. I hope you all enjoy your day with the family and take time to think about the things we can all be thankful for.

I was commissioned by a local area theater in town, to do their upcoming holiday decorations and the theme would be snowflakes. Two sheets of 1/4" birch would be stacked cut to create the over two foot diameter flakes. This would insure symmetry and a running slot in the middle for final assembly that would make a free standing 3D snowflake ornament. In order to cut such sizes on my 16" scroll saw, I twisted the ends of my 7R blades 90 degrees perpendicular so the sheets would have sufficient clearance. As promised yesterday, I'm posting pics of the things I've done over the last couple weeks. Sorry so many all at once.

1. The horse is by Charles Dearing. I made and framed three of them. The frames are straight, but look distorted in the picture - Probably due to the angle.

2. Candle Holder is Steve Good's design and the is assembled with tabs going through the top pieces.

3. Deer mini clock is from Scroller LTD.

4. Eagle leaf is also scroller LTD.

5. Fairy flower pot holder is Steve Good. Also tab assembled.

6. Flower Pot kitten, I don't remember where I got it, but I'm pretty sure it was Scroller LTD. I made three of them. I think the little cat cut into the frame adds a lot.

7. The mini clocks are my design and from the pattern I posted for all of you on here. I made 8 so far.

8. Ornaments galore! I made around 70. The display stand holds 60. they are all two-piece ornaments and made of either cherry or maple. Patterns were purchased. I also made some compound cut cedar ornaments, but haven't taken any pics yet.

Phew!, that was a lot. I hope you enjoy

This one was a test to see how it would turn out if I cut all the lines that were supposed to be painted...came out pretty good I think.

Attempted to cut Steve Goods 3-D ornaments...came out ok for my first try...the stand however is another story...I'll post them when I can.

And her friend wanted some made up for presents so she could give them for presents this year . Made them from 1/8" BB plywood and primed them and painted them gloss white . The pattern was one of a hundred different Ornaments that came off a CD from the Berry Basket that my wife bought me many years ago . I've made around hundred Ornaments this year so far and I'll post more later of different designs , but for now tell me what you think about this design............Marshall

The rippled bowl was not even finished on Saturday, just sanded, but it was too cute to leave at home. I just finished it this morning. It was made from the remainder of the blank that I used for the ring in the walnut bowl (which I copied from one in a lathe book). The amazing thing is that you can do open segmented bowls and vases with the stacked ring technique. The hard part was figuring out how to create the bowl blank--took a number of tries, but I finally have it down.
