This morning I went to sign my dogs up for welfare. At first the lady at the Welfare Office said,"Are you crazy? Dogs are not eligible to draw welfare."

I explained to her that I didn't understand why they should be excluded from consideration. I told her that my dogs are mixed in color, unemployed, lazy, cant speak English and none of them has a clue who their Daddys are. All of them expect me to feed them, provide them with housing, medical care and feel discriminated against because they are dogs.

So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify.

My dogs get their first checks next Friday. Is this a great country or what?

Hey all my friends and people I sort of know. I am partially back and have been lurking for a little bit here of late.

Not to bore anyone with the history, but I was hit with several medical issues all at once and also very long hours at work (partially contributed to the medical issues).

Anyway I am trying to visit more and pick up threads here and there, but I am severely restricted in the shop area with some days being able to work for 15 - 30 mins and a lot of other times just not really safe to be in there period so, very limited project time. With the fall and winter coming I hope I can do a little more but still physical restrictions are going to apply.

I can walk and talk and function pretty much normally (I know I was never really normal to begin with LOL) and am back to work full time. I just hope I can catch up with everyone and all the great new works here.

I hope everyone is doing well and that those that have needed support and such have been in my thoughts as well.

I really missed you folks!

This weeks sat mkt was another success. Not as good as last week, but over $200 with 5 custom orders to cut this week. Weather was a little warmer and I had my new banner to show off.

These pictures were taken during setup not all my product is even displayed yet.

I was strutting big time. I observed as the day progressed how many people were drawn from across the street when they saw and read my banner. So I know it was working plus I got several comments on the Made in Montana logo. Two other vendors from down the street came down to specifically ask how to qualify to use that logo as they had a customer ask about it after seeing it on my banner.
I also had one fella stop in and say I se you ship can you ship a puzzle for me to Georgia? I'm on vacation and would prefer not to carry it along with me. I said sure and quoted him a price and he purchased and paid for the shipping I'll get it of for him on Tuesday!

Anyway I need to add some velcro this week so it will not droop. I didn't have any rope to tighten it either but it was great anyway. Thanks to Kim for all her help!

Oh yes I also re-painted the peg board displays and it really lightened up my booth and does not hide the wood like the old Black back ground.

The other thing I have added is a thumbnail patten book to my display. It has over 600 patterns in it and I'll be adding more this week.

I had several people spend about 15 minutes browsing and 2 ladies made purchases out of the "catalog".

I found a very easy way to make the pattern pages using irfanview, placed 6 thumbnails on each page ripped em to my flash drive and took it to the local printer and for $7.00 they printed them out on front and back page.

Now I just need to make more pages. I placed them in sheet protectors in a 3 ring binder...

Have fun looking at my new banner!!!!!

1. What is a Challenge and how does it work?
One of our board members will offer up a pattern to other members to be reproduced by them and the results - ie finished projects (pieces) - will be posted in the Challenge thread. By this means a group of members can compare their work and interpretation of the Challenge subject in a common thread. Challenges are open to all board members irrespective of their skill level. Newcomers or relatively inexperienced members are encouraged to join these challenges and use them as a vehicle to try our new techniques or improve their existing scrolling abilities. Experienced members are encouraged to participate as mentors to less experienced members.

2. Is Guidance given on how to produce a project?
Guidance will be provided by the Challenge originator in the form of question/answer postings in the Challenge thread. He or she may also provide Work in Progress guidelines in the form of photos or a tutorial. All Challenge participants are encouraged to join in these question/answer posting with their own thoughts, ideas and tips. Usually there are several ways to come up with a similar result and the more information that is shared by the participants the more knowledge is gained.

3. Is posting of Work In Progress pictures permitted
Definitely!!! WIP photos not only provide interest but are an extremely valuable teaching aid for newcomers and semi experienced members. Also, if a participant has a problem with a particular part of a project, for example, the cutting or shaping of a pieces, posting a WIP photo is one of the best ways to explain it to others and obtain help

4. What woods and cutting technique (intarsia or segementation) should be used for a Challenge project?
There are usually no fixed rules on what woods and cutting technique should be used for a project unless stipulated by the Challenge originator. Patterns can be transformed into finished pieces using whatever woods the participant has to hand. The cutting technique can usually follow a segmentation or an intarsia style or a combination of both
Note: If you are a newcomer and have doubts what this means take a look at this thread

5. What decoration and finishing techniques should be used?
Again, unless stipulated by the Challenge originator, the choice of decoration and finish is usually left to the individual. Finishes can be natural wood finishes, use of staining or ebonizing techniques, use of paints, or mixed media finishes. Non wood materials can also be included

6. How are patterns issued to Challenge participants - Once a Challenge is begun a thread for it will be opened in the Sticky threads sub section relating to Intarsia, Inlay or Segmentation scrolling. The head post will provide information on how members can apply for and receive a pattern. Once a pattern is received the participant can begin the challenge

*** IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING ISSUING OF PATTERNS*** A pattern or patterns will only be provided to members who make an honest commitment to participate in the Challenge and share their experiences and results with others. The individuals who initiate these Challenges not only provide their patterns free of charge but also put a lot of their time and effort into creating a successful Challenge. All members requesting a pattern are asked to respect this point and not simply look on Challenges as a means to obtain a free pattern and give nothing in return!

7. How long does a Challenge run? - Challenges have no fixed time limit but the Challenge originator will usually indicate a final date for acceptance of new participants and a rough guide as to when the Challenge will close. Around 8 weeks start to finish is a reasonable time period

FINAL POINT - THIS IS NOT A QUESTION, IT'S A RULE!

Challenges have a serious side, but they are meant to be fun. Please help make them run that way!!
