I have done a little whittling of various figures, but I would like to do a few carictatures of old time hill billy figures. *Some might include figures around a moonshine still or figures with jugs of moonshine. *Who would be a good contact or source for ideas and information? *Thanks for any help anyone could give me.

Harold Enlow jumps right to mind. He has lots of books with patterns. Dave |

If y'all want to stop by, I know where there's a still and we can do a self portrait!

Hey, Eddy, that might work; if the self portrait turned out a little 'fuzzy', who'd notice, right? Al |

But would that bit of art be a caricature or a still life? |

These guys are correct about Harold being the first name in Hillbilly. He has lived in Dogpatch, Arkansas for a long time. Another carver might be Tom Wolfe, although he has books on many subjects, I believe he still carves mostly hillbillys. Tom's book on 'Penknife carving' is good, Harold's book 'Carving figure caricatures in the ozark style' is very good and inexpensive. Other than that, you might take a trip down to the smoky mountains and see for yourself. |

Maybe the old cartoons of ' Lil Abner , that was all Hill Billy. Or old photos of your relatives. |
