Default Straight Lines

So when should you carve a straight line or flat surface on a caricature carving? Never, unless you are carving a ruler, even then, I might not make it perfectly straight.

Take a look at some of the better caricature carvings in ChipChats, WCI, or Carving magazine; you will find very few straight lines.

When viewed from any direction, you should not see anything smooth, flat, or straight. With very few exceptions.

Good advice. Thanks Rick. Apreciate it.
I guess being a charicature, it wouldn't have straight lines,
I really enjoy this board as the friendship and tid bits of information are always welcome.

I think that is what my dog carving turned out to be for my GDaughter. Finished it up and mounted it on a base as I really did not want her to play with it. Painted it like her puppy and I think she liked it. I got hugs and kisses golore! Sure is 'prettiful' being a papa.

Thanks again Rick.

Kenny, if you are getting kisses and hugs for your carvings, you are being paid very well indeed!

Since I got glasses with progressive lenses, there aren't any straight lines in anything.
