Default CA State Caricature Carving Seminar and Show

The CA State Caricature Carving Club is having a week long carving event starting 9/11/04. Dave Stetson will be doing a 3 day carving class and Janet Denton-Cordell will be doing a 3 day carving class on realistic carvings of women. There will be a 1 day class and a 2 day show and competition on the week end at San Simeon. It is my first chance to go to carving seminars and I am looking forward to the opportunity. I have also never entered any of my carvings in a show and will be taking several pieces to see how they are viewed by others. I hope to learn new skills, make new friends and share experiences.
I really want to make the transition from simply copying the work of others to creating wholly unique pieces of work. I would never disrespect any well known carver by asserting that any of my carvings are a copy of their works. Maybe mine are unintentionally unique simply because no one would recognize the similarities enough to even be recognizable.
Wish me luck and I will try and not cut off any fingers while learning.

Lucky you !! That's a great opportunity. Dave is a really fine instructor and you'll learn more in 3 days than you can imagine. Besides that -- he's NICE and an awfully lot of fun (but don't tell him I said that )
