One carving looks like Phil Bishop's style, one like Gerald Sears, and the viking reminds me of a Rex Branson. http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopage...sortpropertyZ1 |

your absolutely right i wonder if they are actualy hand carved. while browsing at Michel's last week i spotted a shelf of santa's they were acyually resin casts of someones carvings and the casts showed all the knife marks-faces were well painted with only the body left to paint.price-$1.00 on sale if it wasn't for the enjoyment i get from carving and the fact i don't do it for a living i think i would give it up. There was an article in the local paper the other day about a local artist who sold hand carved sconces<sp?> for $30 and they were ripped off by the Christmas Tree Shop who was selling castings for $1.99. I hadn't thought about it before reading that article since I like those discount stores. But it's too bad that more people don't appreciate the unique charm of hand carved objects. mikeg

Who'd pay $120 for a carving anyway? They're just fancy pieces of firewood. The wife says 'never trust the Chinese.' She oughta know. |

In our area we have 'dollar stores' and they have hand carved walking sticks w/a dragon head holding a glass marble in it's mouth. You guessed it - $1.00 Big Al

P.S. I was reading an artical that said when Nike brings out a new model of a sneeker, it takes less than 48 hours for someone to copy it. Big Al

...I think we'd be naive to believe that all buyers appreciate the art and aren'y lookin' to make a buck at our expense. > ![]() ...they say imitation is the best form of flattery...I don't believe them! :-/ |

...its also interesting to note that he sold his first 6 carvings to the same person ??? I guess thats why his feedback rating is 100% with only 3 buyers... |

Actually, if they are real carvings, and they are hand carved, they are probably worth the $120. Good carving is good carving, does it really matter who did it? Although, in this instance, I am a little curious (suspicious) given the information provided in the listing.
