Default Lance Corporal William L. Matthews, Jr. U.S. Marine pattern by Ted 'PawPaw' Hayes

In the pupper 70 album can be found the wooden portrait of L/Cpl William L. Matthews, Jr. U.S. Marine, KIA Vietname 4/15/1968. The pattern was designed by Ted 'PawPaw' Hayes, a member of this group.

Bill was from my hometown in Ohio. I just became acquainted with him from an article I saw on-line in my hometown newspaper. Bill was the first Vietnam casualty from our county. Bill was a few years younger than I which explains why I did not know him.

A cousin of Bill's was mentioned in the article and I found him in Indiana. Portraits were delivered to two uncles and to the local VFW Post.

Bill was a member of The Warriors of Hill 881S and you can follow this link to visit the website.

My thanks to Ted Hayes for a great pattern from a difficult photo.

Dan
