Talking Japanese Lantern project...

Well another project is in the history books. I just assembled the Japanese Lantern project from Pedro over at finescrollsaw.com. Each side has a different scene, with the words forming "Japan the land of the rising sun".
I used a 4 watt CFL chandelier style bulb to illuminate. Probably wouldn't do that again, as they are $10 a piece. The alternative is to use the mini globes that you get at Ikea, they also fit a chandelier socket and at 25 watts should be cool enough.

Individual side shots are on the Picasa web site at:

Well that's enough yapping for now...back to the sawdust factory....

Hi . I have the same lantern project plus the Eiffel tower , both of which are for later projects along with a pile of others . What wood did you use for the lantern and tower , and did you paint the lantern ? They both look good.
Have you considered using an LED light ?
Cheers . Roger

Hi Ramjet, for both projects I used 1/4" baltic birch plywood. The Eiffel Tower I used a water based stain from Minwax. The color was spice. The lanterns I spray them with gloss black, about 4 coats, rotating the piece each time. BTW, the corner pieces of the lantern need to be painted on both sides.

Cheers,

Mr. Hobbie
