| New cut: Giraffe in Leopardwood A new grandma's present for her first grandchild completed on 21 Apr 07 , pic on my site under "Latest Work." There's three other projects/photos at the link too from last weekend, 15 Apr: http://scrollsawnart.com/latest_work.aspx
Cut in leopardwood, 9" tall, finished with Deft satin spray.

| Nice cutting on a nice piece of wood.
I agree with Ian in that it looks a lot like lacewood.
I am curious if the same wood has two different names as in leopardwood and lacewood.
Here are a couple pens I made recently in lacewood. Doesn't it look a lot like the same wood in both color and grain pattern ? ?

I was always under the impression that lacewood was an Australian tree, which is what a number of sites say, including the one above, calling it "Cardwellia Sublimis"
This site gives both lacewood and leopardwood as different trees both coming from S America and here the botanical name of lacewood here is "panopsis rubellens". http://www.woodworkerssource.net/Mer...cewoodConfused ? I am!
