Default Cigar Band Puzzle

It didn't quite turn out right but not bad for a first try. 1/4" BB using FD 2/0 blades. Puzzle size is about 1.75"x3.25" with ?29 pieces. I need to work on making better knobs...

Good idea and a nice 1st try! Looks quite tight for a 2/0, I'm surprised. Carter has mentioned that he uses jewelers' blades for his stamp puzzles, probably adds a lot of control as they have 2X the teeth of a puzzle blade.

I'll echo what the othes said - great first try - you already said yourself that the knobs need a little work ... one or two look as if they'd slip out ...

They do in fact slip out. That's why I'm not real happy with the puzzle. Carter has been giving me advice and recommended the FD blades. I don't think the blade is at fault. The puzzle is small and hard to control. Plus, I found the blade getting lost in the puzzle image making it harder to see the knob shape. I cut it free-hand without a pattern using the image lines for guidance.

It does look nice. Those lobes can be a pain to cut.
Try placing a stong light at one side of the saw. the shadow created by the blade will intersect with the blade itself and that will give you a better indication where the blade is.
You might also find the puzzle easier to control if you make the first few cuts divide the puzzle into two. Then you have two smaller shapes to work with rather than one long skinnier shape.
