| Scrolled boxes Thought I'd post some pics of some scrolled boxes I made. Dreams Jewellery Box.jpgSunbonnet Sue Blue.jpgSunbonnet Sue Pink.jpg
These 3 are from Diane Thompson's new book "Custom Wooden Boxes for the Scroll Saw". This is a very nice book, with 31 different box patterns, and of course it's available from Fox Chapel. In order to get the depth for the box, I glued two pieces of 3/4" Maple ply together, the lids are made of 1/2" BB ply. These boxes are pretty easy to make, and I think for anyone looking for sellable items, these could be it. All 3 were made in less then a day, and that included the finishing. Swan Box open.jpg
This one is featured in Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts&C magazine issue # 14. The box is cut from solid Maple (that was like cutting stone), the lid is 1/2" Poplar. There's quite a bit of burning on the Maple box, so I had to paint it. Gotta learn to slow that saw down.
Well Thanks for looking

| Very nice Marsha, I cut the swan box out and really liked it, really neat box and not very hard to do. Gave it away without taking a pic of it though, did that a lot until I joined here, now I take pics of everything I do. Again good work.

| Those are lovely, Marsha. I do like Diana Thompson's patterns and you've cut them beautifully.

| I never saw that book on boxes but I love the way they came out.
Nice work.

| Very nice Marsha on all four of them.
I knew I had made some of the swan boxes but couldn't remember if I had taken pictures of them so I pulled up one of my computer backup CD's from 2005 and sure enough that was where they were stored. So was issue # 14 of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts actually from 2005? I can't remember and I gave away all my scrollsaw magazines because they were crowding me out for room.
I agree they are fun and easy little projects to make. I gave some of those swan boxes to some of my granddaughters when they were visiting here with their parents ..

EDIT.
I just found another one on a different CD. With this one I had glued a piece of stiff red felt on the underside of the lid.
It seemed to bring out the fretwork pattern better than the ones where I just left the fretwork open.. I remembered that I was experimenting with different colors back then. Black and green were also quite impressive.

| Good work Marsha.
I bet that was slow cutting on the Maple box.
