Default First Project

Hey folks,
Well this is the first of hopefully many others to come. The lighthouse is a Robin Arnold design. I am not sure if this should go here since I am certainly not bragging, mainly relieved that I could do a design with the saw. You guys to brag. It is unfinished and any comments on anything about the lighthouse is appreciated. Todd I hope this uploads.

First project? You have every right to brag, and it is in the right spot. Good job. How do you plan to finish it?

Troy, I really have no idea on how I am going to finish it. I do not have alot of experience with finishes. Any ideas? Todd

Todd, It's according to what you prefer, stain or paint, or both. Me, I like to stain most of my projects, like the wood grain look. You also have the option of oils such as Boiled Linseed Oil, you'll see a lot of people refer to this as BLO, after it dries you can finish with a clearcoat of some sort. Sooooo... many was that you can finish it.

Todd,
I personally would not make it too dark or you will loose your detail. I like the location of the knot it looks almost like the sun in clouds.
Play around with your scraps till you get a finish you like.
I use tung oil (formbys)and then a clear satin finish clear coat, I personally am not a big fan of glossy work.

Todd, great job on a first time cutting. I use 1/8" luan plywood stained a dark color for a backer on my scenic cuttings and a clear, satin finish. There are many materials you can use for a backer. Keep the sawdust flying.
