| Guess who I visited today???? The youngest and I drove out and visited with Rivari and his wonderful family.
He took to his new toy quite well as you can see in the picture AND made a mighty fine first pen! HPIM0799 (546 x 600).jpg HPIM0801 (311 x 600).jpg
That was a special treat for my daughter and I, Rivari...please thank your wonderful wife and daughters for us. And yourself, of course.
I got an earful of all the excitement on the drive home and it hasn't ended yet!!!!
Take care and let me know when those new lathe tools show up! |

Great time Todd, THANKS. She is STILL talking about the visit.
And I "meant" to start a different thread, not hijack this one. Feel free to move it to a new one.
GREAT PATTERN BTW Robert! Are you the same guy that just started last fall????? |

| Barry, it was a great visit and an awesome learning experince, the only let down is that I have to wait for my pen mandrel to show up (and other tools)which I ordered after you left. Man that lathe work has reminded me of the reason why I love being in the woodshop once again. Now I just need to find a happy balance between it and my scroll saw. And let me add, Barry has one of the single best mannered young ladies I have met in some time. I think my wife and I have already discussed a child exchange with our older daughter for his youngest, we'll throw in a slew of chickens, one rabbit in the and a white dog that I wished would run away in the deal if your interested my friend? lol

| When I get back from Alabama we will have to do it again on your turf, that is if your turf isn't sold by then.

| Rivari... here's how I justified and combined my scrollsaw and lathe work. I call these my "Herman" characters after a buddy I used to remodel homes with m-a-n-y years ago. My lathe is a 1940's vintage Sears and the swing is only 6" so what I turn in it isn't dwarfed by the size of the lathe. You could turn bedposts with yours!

| That first pen looks good to me. Congrats on the new lathe. How to balance between scrolling and turning is a mystery that I haven't worked out either.

| That is a fine project there Pop, nice work!
Jeff I never would have had such success without Barry standing there giving me guidence. If you only knew how long it took you would surely laugh, I was too paranoid about screwing it up. I beleive I was cutting well below Granny speed.
