Default Jack&Minnie

this is a pattern I made from a picture I took of our friends dogs Jack(a Jack Russel) and Minnie (a Beagle) its scrolled from 1/4 in red oak ply and stained with Watco natural danish oil the frame is my very first hand made frame made with my new mitersaw, the wood started out as 1 3/4" designed trim that I cut down to 1" and stained with Watco Danish Walnut stain, this is a suprise for her

Hey Daryl, what program did you use to make the pattern? I've just started with patterns myself, but with the advice that I was given from others that have been doing this a lot longer than I, it really helped me look at the patterns a lot closer for the subtle details. The dogs have color changes around their faces that may have added to the cutting, but you captured their expressions and that's good. Just my .02 worth. Was this a gift for your friends?

For your first frame, good job, no noticeable gaps. How did you cut the recess for the cutting? Keep the sawdust flying and keep posting your work.

I used a free down load of serif draw plus, the recess was already there as it was ready made trim all I did was miter it and apply stain

I also used a free download of Paint.Net, pretty easy to get around in. You probably already know but on the frames no matter what size you are making, make sure that both sides are exactly the same length and the top & bottom are exactly the same length. Use some sort of stop to get the exact cuts. I use a miter sled that has an incra gauge on it and boy did it make a difference, but the same can be done on a miter saw as well. Keep up the good work.
