Default Eight and Twelve-sided Bowls

I thought I would try to make some "undulating rings" bowls (Spielman's New Scroll Saw Handbook) to send along with Christmas presents to some of our children. I laid out, cut and glued the first one (8 sides), then decided to try a 12 sided bowl. After drawing and cutting the 12 sided bowl I realized there was not enough overlap layer-to-layer to securely glue the rings together. I had seen pictures of undulating ring bowls with vertical supports so I laid out and cut the stepped walnut supports: that turned out to be the most difficult part, cutting those stair steps. Making bowls like these or the bowls Carole Rothman designed gives me a real appreciation for my Ridgid spindle/belt sander!!

Very nicely done Harpone. I like the 12 sided one the best I think. The walnut really sets it off. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Beautiful! I just love how you can run into a "problem" and when you work out the solution, the result is so terrific!
