Default Another Band saw box

This week I was able to spend some time in the shop...built 2 large band saw boxes and 14 small boxes. Here are 3 of them...the first 2 are about 13" long X 5'- 6" tall and 3" deep. The last one is one of the small boxes...5" tall X 2" wide X 2" deep. All made from Koa and finished with several coats of fast drying Minwax Poly.

Those are great. Do you do them free hand or have a pattern?

I have a couple books with patterns in them that I use, but I also draw my own patterns when I get the cobwebs out of my brain... The first box was my design. I also take printed patterns and change them to suit what I want it to look like.

The second and third boxes are really nice but the first.....oh la la, that's some really beautiful grain and a great design. As always, beautiful work.

That is one piece of Koa I would like to have more of....Koa comes in many different designs, and that is one I can not afford very often...about $25 per foot!!! I had a piece 3" thick and a bit larger than the first box...finally decided to design a box to fit the piece I had.

Lovely work Larry.

What takes the longest, making the box or finishing it?
