Beetle Pine Band Saw Boxes - Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Message Board

Hi everyone, just finished 2 more band saw boxes.

The first one is from beetle pine, as you'll see the top drawer has a finger hole - thought I'd do them all that way but quickly discovered the lack of space in the others. The finish is 2 coats of BLO, lightly sanded, followed by clear lacquer. This is this first time I've used spray lacquer and it was a learning process in itself. Still have a couple small dribbles to work off.

First photo shows the box side after a 100g up to 220 sanding, 2nd and 3rd are after the BLO was applied - really popped the grain out and 4th is the finished (!) box. Green flocking for the drawers. 9 1/2"h x 4 1/2"w x 4"d.

The second box is from the same wood - beetle pine, finish is 4 coats of clear WOP, water base. The large drawer on the left has an upper and lower cavitiy. Will be flocking with a medium green moss color.

Now to try some scroll saw boxes, I have pine, mahogany, cedar of various thicknesses - put a test on my skill at resawing.

Nice looking boxes Glenn. Making those band saw boxes is really fun.

Yes it is fun and addictive, I've glued up some more blocks but I'll let them cure for several weeks. Have just been picking thru some smaller wood and will try to adapt some of LK Ventura's patterns for the scroll saw, need to give it a whirl.

Will review some patterns from Carole's latest book, there's some in there I really like. Must try them, a little different approach for me but it's all learning and practice for me.
