I presented this box to Katsue this evening. She was amazed. I put the pen there as a size reference. I used part of a limb from our son's mesquite tree for both projects. The knob is a piece of a small mesquite limb. As you can see in the bigger piece there is a light colored wood just under the bark. On smaller pieces the lighter part is a larger portion of the wood. I finished it by soaking it in boiled linseed oil, (blo), wiping and letting it cure a couple days in the warm Arizona heat then a couple coats of spray can lacquer. The pen has blo and super glue for a finish.

Very nice box Stephen. How hard is Mesquete and how did you get the bark so attached?

Thanks for the comments. What is a live drawer? Glad it is something you like whatever it is. The bark came that way Larry. I soaked it well in blo as I said to make the bark darker and preserve it's shape. I kinda think I may need to super glue it back on someday, if it comes loose. It took a lot time to blow the extra oil out of the crevices in the bark.

Nicely done. "Live Drawer" is the same as a real working drawer as opposed to just lines simulating a drawer.
