Default Oval basket for my neighbor

I posted a while ago about receiving some nice oak boards from a neighbor. Since he was kind enough to give me the wood, it was only right that I make him something from it.

The oval basket is a pattern from "The Scroll Bench" site. I initially used salad bowl finish on it, but didn't think it did justice to the oak. Sooooooo, I hand sanded the whole blasted thing! Then, I put a light coat of golden pecan stain on it and clear coated it. Much better, IMO

This is the first basket of this type that I've made. I have a couple collapsible baskets cut but not finished yet. Also a couple stacked ring baskets from Steve G's site.

Now, back to intarsia. LOL

Really nice job, Nancy. I like the shape and the way the finish came out.

Nice work, Nancy. I'm sure your neighbor will appreciate getting some of that oak back that he was trying to give away.

Carole, DW, Jim,

My neighbor will be surprised, I think, that's what makes it fun to do this.

What a nice style. I do like your work on this. The best gift is the one you give because you want to.

I took the basket over and gave it to him. He was surprised and pleased. Makes it all worthwhile.

It is always better to give than to receive and to give back is even better. Very nice job on the bowl. Try using a contrasting darker wood for the slats if you want something completely different.
