Default 2009 Ribbons and Bows Box

A few months ago, someone called Fox Chapel and asked if my book contained any bowls with bows on them. I filed that thought away for a future project, but got busy with other stuff and never go around to it.

When I saw Fran's pretty oval bowl with the contrasting lid, it reminded me that I still hadn't gotten around to working out my project: a covered box, made with the stacked ring method, and topped with a bow like the one on my "ribbons and bows" box. I decided to use the square pattern from my book as the basis, since it was more box-like than any other shape.

Here are pictures of the 2007 box and several views of the newer version. It took me three tries to get the loops right (washing off the glue before it could set) but I refused to give up. The name stamp was a Xmas gift, and although I had a hard time learning how to use it, I finally got it right.

If anyone wants construction specifics, just ask. It's the same old technique, just dressed up a bit.

Saw dust, after 150 bowls or so, you start getting the hang of it . . . .

What I like is that even simple bowls can look really nice, and they're great ways to use up scrap wood. Glad you liked my project--I had fun making it.

Beautiful, just beautiful. Put something inside and you wouldn't even have to wrap it up to give as a gift. It is kinda funny how can completely change the appearance of a project with some additions like that.
