Hi Charles and welcome to the forum. My favorite cutting is also compound cutting. I especially like to make chess sets. I've attached a link to my favorite compound designer. She has many books available, all from Fox Chapel. Have a look you might be inspired.

I hope you'll post some of your work.

I've also tried intarsia, but really dislike it. Quess I don't really understand it.

WOW! Do you ever, and quite nice I might add.
Thanks for posting your link, I added it to my favorites, so I can go back and get some patterns (as soon as I clean up my credit card )

Default sawdustus of hiawatha

Charles,
Fox Chapel has lots of compound cut books. To view them:
start at the home page of this web site and click on the Fox Chapel Publishing button at the top.
At the bottom of the page, click on the click here button. this will take you to the book store page.
At the left you can browse by catagory. Mouse over scroll saw and move right and down to compound.
Click on Compound and you will get a list of all Fox Chapel compound scrollsaw books. There are many.
I hope this helps you out. You can order on line or over the phone.
