Smile New To Scrolling

Hi Everyone,
What a great message board. Very informative. I have a question about sawdust collection for the Dewalt 788. I've been researching to purchase a new saw and this message board has many kudos about the Dewalt. Maybe I am missing something, but on this saw I did not see a port for sawdust collection. For owners of this saw what have you used or is it something not to consider?
Thanks

Dust collection for me is not an issue. The majority of dust falls straight down under the blade,Ive seen where some have attached a shop vac hose underneath to catch most of the dust, and some do design a place to hook up the dust collector. The shop vac idea is nice, but the vac's I have are rather noisy, and I dont care to hear it whining. My saws are in the basement, where the fine dust isnt much of a nuisance,I just sweep it up,and good enough. I know one that uses her scrollsaw in her family room, and i think she just vacs after using the saw,and hasnt had too much marital trouble because of it.I've got two yella saws, and love em both. The dust created by the scrollsaw is a very fine dust, but there isnt heaps of it as with any other kinds of saws.Welcome to the message board, you will lovtscroll more and more until you have to change your name to addictedtoscrollin

The fine blades we use produce fine sawdust. Not all dust will be blown downwards; a significant amount will remain suspended in the air and can be ingested. Even that which is blown down will be disturbed when you move and thus become airborne.

We only get one set of lungs and I've always worn breathing protection of some form. I'm looking forward to testing out the new Trend Airshield that Santa bought me .

Trend Airshield http://www.airwareamerica.com/index....PROD&ProdID=34 This is a little over the top for scrollsawing. A good dust mask like a Dustbegone or 3M will do just fine. Contrary to believe a scroll saw does put out alot of fine dust that is hard to see but wiil end up on things. Need to designate an area to do scrolling that is away from living quarters, not in a sewing room or bedroom. Any woodworking tool produces dust no matter what kind of dust collection it has hooked to it.

Hi garmtn

You should be able to make headway in your search using this link; but be warned - the $:£ exchange rate isn't in your favor at present.
