I am fairly new to scroll sawing and i am finding real difficulties in obtaining good quality accesories in the UK. I have a subscription to Scroll saw Work Shop which i find both very helpfull and frustrating at the same time. Most of the products advertised are only available in the USA and i have tried contacting various advertisers to ask if they are prepaired to ship to the UK but as yet not one of them has bothered to reply.I dont blame them realy as my orders would be only small ones. The only blades i have found in the UK are Rexon Delta and various no namers Does any one know where i can find Fying Dutchman or blades of that quality in the UK or anyone who will be prepared to ship to the UK also any of the sanding aids advertised in the mags. If there are any other scroll saw buffs in the UK where do you get your supplies from.Any help gratefully received. Bernard |

Hi Bernard Welcome to the forum. I'm in the UK too so I should be able to help. If there's anything you're specifically looking for, just shout - I may not have the answers but at least you'll know you're not suffering on your own !Firstly - the Flying Dutchman blades are available from Mike's Workshop. He will ship to the UK and delivery is normally pretty quick, within a couple of weeks. Mike frequents these boards and is very helpful all round. If you want a UK alternative you could try the Olsen blades here, but I've tried them and much prefer Mike's FDs. There are also fretsaw supplies available from Hobbies. I've found getting quality plywood in the UK to be a pain; if you know of any sources, I'd love to hear from you. Plywood is available from Hobbies but it's horrendously expensive. One day I'm going to check out what's available in the local model making shop but I'm not hopeful. Until then, I'll have to rely on the stuff I can get from DIY sheds. Hope this helps Gill

Hi Gill, Thank you very much for the information about the FD blades and your commend about the other blades. It is very much appreciated. I don't believe Bernard contacted me like he did the others. I know that he would have received a reply from me. It is really too bad that the scrollsaw magazine "The New ScrollSaw" didn't make it in the UK. Did you know about the Middlebrook Craftworld? I just looked through one of their magazins and found a ton of information for scrollers, turners ect. Mike M

Hi Mike After trying so many times for info and getting nowhere i sort of gave up and never came accross your name till after joining this message board. Please accept my apoloies. Since then i am starting to get some worthwile info from some very nice people Sinse becoming interested in scrollsawing i have found in the UK it seems compared with other countries there is not a lot of interest in scrollsawing so dealers shops & DIY outlets do not cater much for this interest. It is quite frustrating when you have to send away evary time you want decent blades or a certain type of danish oil etc. As i have said before i am a newboy and am learning all the time whilst thourouly enjoying my new found hobby. I will be in touch with your site in the near future. Thanks |
