I got in the habit of releasing the tension on my DELTA P20 scroll saw because it was recomended by Delta as the saw has graphite arms. It was just a matter of flipping a lever. I have continued doing it on my Hegner also.

The way I see it like the old saying goes: IT CAN'T HURT AND IT JUST MIGHT HELP.

The word tension, doesn't sound like a good thing to me. I always release the tension lever. Let the metal rest, give it a break.

It is an automatic thing with the band saw, turn off, cut, release tension. With the scrollsaws it is not so automatic. I remember once I forgot it and left for one off my trip and when I came back I had a seven inch scrollsaw blade. Wait a minute, do you think I am stretching the truth. Really, it is a good idea to release the tension.
