OK, I'm a real beginner. I finished cutting out a project but the pattern is really stuck on tight. I used the 3M Spray Adhesive. Any ideas short of sanding it off? Thanks. Rudy |

Yes spritz it or paint on some mineral spirits. Let it sit for a few minutes and it should lift right off. If you encounter any trouble areas just moisten it again and let it sit. It only takes about 5-10 mins sitting time. Mineral spirits is the same as paint thinner. Not lacquer thinner paint thinner.

If mineral spirits don't work, after it dries, use a heat gun or hair dryer to get it off. I have never had to go that far because I usually attach pattern to tape on the project and the MS works good on that. Good Luck

Rudy, next time apply blue painter's tape to your wood then apply the pattern to the tape. Don't overlap the tape, butt the edges together. When finished cutting just remove the tape and pattern all at once.

The blue tape I'm sure works great. My thing is, unfortunately that tape is fairly expensive. When you're selling items, every penny counts. I just take the extra time with the mineral spirits. It comes off. With a little experience, you'll learn the proper amount of adhesive to apply so that it stays put but will also peal off when you want it to. If money is no issue to you, definitely go with the blue tape.

You may also want to check the label on the adhesive -- the ones I get advise me to spray it on and then wait for 1 full minute before applying it to the wood, in order to have a "temporary" bond. Apparently applying it right away would result in a permanent bodn. That said, you can try the mineral spirits, and I've used rubbing alcohol as well, but find the hair-dryer application to be the best, next to applying the glued pattern on top of the painters' tape.

When I took my first seminar on Scroll Saw at the Durham Woodworkers club they used a product call Citrasolv. Environmentally friendly as they teach a lot of kids and can't use mineral spirits. It worked like a charm and I plan on getting some on my next trip to Lee Valley. Don Citrus Solvent - Lee Valley Tools |

That product looks an aweful lot like "Goo Gone" and I would probably guess is the same thing. You can find Goo Gone in a alot of different stores.
