Question need easy chunky pattern

i'm visiting my dad for thanksgiving and he is looking for a project to do with my 8 yr old.
at a craft festival my son would not leave the woodworker's booth. my son would love to "make" his own figures with Papa.
my dad has the tools and saw but we'll be short on time. where can i find an easy pattern for a cowboy/indian/pirate? (they can all be pretty much the same basic pattern, right) would trying to draw them be just as easy? has anyone already done this?

Try to google cowboy, coloring books. There are a lot of choices. Print out a page and simplify it to make a chunky pattern. You could also look in Patrick Spielman & Dan Kihl's book Southwest SS Patterns. Many of them can be traced as a chunky outline. My suggestion for wood is either 3/4" pine or some other soft wood. Easier to cut for a beginner. Welcome aboard and happy scrolling.

Id agree with Georges post. Look up "free coloring pages" online for cowboys, pirates, ect. Then, use those for the basic shapes for him to cut out. Then he can color them in various ways, from crayons, to colored pencils, or even slap some paint on em! its great hes interested in it, keep him involved with it, and he will go far.Its great seeing the younger generation wanting to do things creative and constructive. Thank you for taking to time to help him with it!
