Smile Scrollsaws in the UK

Hello
I'm looking to buy a scrollsaw in the UK but it seems that the best products like the Dremel Scroll Station are only available in the USA and that the range and quality over there are superior. Can anyone confirm if that is the case and where I can get the best possible machine over here.
I'd be most appreciative of your help / advice /experience
Francis

I've never heard the Dremel Scroll Station described in such a way before!

You're quite right - those pesky Americans have cornered the market on good scroll saws. Confound them and their DeWalt 788s!

The UK does have a few decent saws. Top of the range right now are Hegner, although it is possible to get Hegner clones such as the Axminster AWFS18. I saw an AWFS18 For the first time the other day, although it was just on display. I must say, I thought it looked rather rough compared to my Hegners. The Fox seems to be attracting a following too and the SIP 16" has been a good introductory saw for a number of years.

Actually, Dremel doesn't even make a scroll saw anymore...

<And no...I'm not going to start my Dremel rant again, GRIN>

Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly.
Just after I posted the message saying that the Dremel scroll station was the best thing since sliced bread, I read another review which said it was completely useless! Oh well....
Francis
I live near Axminster so I'll follow that one up....

Thanks for getting back to me....
Just after I had been reading someone raving about the Dremel Saw Station and posted the message, I read another which said it was a useless piece of kit which cuts out regularly for no reason. Ignorance is bliss and you can see what a rookie I am!

The saw itself wasn't bad...as far as an entry-level saw goes. But I wouldn't try to use the attached disc sander....

Francis, I'm sorry I can't help with what saw to choose, as I'm in the U.S. Arizona in fact. It's even hard for me to find one here in a Yuma store. They only have the small table models. I have a DeWalt 788 & love it. Am trying to sell my Delta, but, no luck so far. I guess you will need someone over there to give you guidence. Good Luck. Perk

Can I make a shameless plug? There is a forum specifically for UK scrollers here where questions pertaining to the problems we have on this side of The Pond can be addressed. It isn't the most active of communities, but it could be.

Other nationalities are very welcome too .

Plug away, Gill. I'd appreciate a plug for us sometime too...

Wait...that didn't sound nearly as good as it did in my head <GRIN>
