Just got the Hawk 220 over the weekend. It came with the extra belt which I think is bigger than the one on there. I understand you have to remove the pulley and flip it around to the larger side for a slower speed. What I am yet to figure out is how to take the tension off the belt. Do you just pull the belt to the side while turning by hand to remove it with full tension? Is it tough to put the belt back on this way? I am use to being able to move the motor to release/tighten the tension. Just want to make sure I am not missing something here. Thanks for the help, Tim |

Hey Tim, You have to roll the belt from one grove to the next at the same time rotating the motor. I know it's a pain, but the saw was built in the mid 80s, also there weren't that many trucks with power windows back then. Your saw is either a 2 or 3 speed 220. The three speed model will use two belts either a Gates MM425 for fast speed or a Gates MM450 for slow and med. speeds. Hope this helps!!! Now make some dust!!! See Ya. Steve

Sounds like the old antique shop smith that I acquired and only use as a drill press. Don't ask me how old it is? It is just old as, maybe older than dirt.
