Default Newbie with questions

Hello, this is my first post on this forum, but I have read the forum at times out of curiosity. I have probably done just enough scrolling to be dangerous. I picked up a Craftsman scroll saw in a deal for a bandsaw a couple of years ago and have only done a few Christmas ormanments for the kids last year. Now last week I was tipped off to an auction on publicsurplus.com for several RBI Hawk saws being sold by our local public school system. I bid on one and won it for $78 dollars. I picked it up yesterday and it is a model 220VS in very good condition. I'm very excited to say the least! So my questions at this time are; does anyone have an electronic copy of the owners manual that they could send me? And also the lower blade holder is missing so what recommendations would be made for replacing the lower or both blade holders? Thanks for any helpful advice!

Tim P

P.S. By the way, when I picked up the saw the maintanence guy told me they had five or six more of the saws that will likely also be sold. They are being sold by the Rochester, MN public school system if you wanted to watch for them.

Congrat's Tim,
Do you know if the saw is a 220vs Pro or Ultra model?

Hey Tim, welcome to the board. First of all, congrats on a great deal! I have a Hawk myself. While I don't have an electronic copy of anything, I am more than happy to copy what I can and send it to you. Actually, I don't think there was much to it other than a laminated card. If you have any questions, just throw them out there - this place is a wealth of knowledge. I have never seen a group of people more willing to help their fellow scrollers.

As for the bottom blade holder, are you referring to the actual piece in which the blade clamps? If so, that is a small removable piece. It is placed in one of the holes on the top swing arm, the blade is clamped into place, and then slid into one of the two notches on the bottom swing arm. If they did not come with the saw, I think - think - you can get information from this site:

Hawk Woodworking Tools

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Steve, I don't know which model it is. Are there any obvious differences
between them? I am going to call the company tomorrow to see if
they can give me any further info based on the serial number on the
saw.

Rikk, All there is on the lower arm is what looks like a spring clip of some
sort. It is black in color and is screwed to the bottom of the lower
aluminum arm. The upper arm has the blade holder with the hex bolt
out the side of it.

Tim,
The little clip on the lower arm is what holds the blade holder in place. The lower blade holder is a little square piece with a set pin and a thumb screw. Once you fit the blade in the holder (using the hole on the upper arm), you slip it into the little notch on the lower arm and it is held in place with the clip.

I know you can purchase extra lower blade holders.

I have a 220, and I do have an operators manual. If you'd like, you can email me your address and I'll copy the manual for you. I will get it in the mail within one day. My email is: rikk38@hotmail.com

All I can say is WOW, you got one helluva deal. At that price, you should try to buy every one of those saws! I know I would!

Tim,
The black clip lets me know you have a 220vs Pro model saw. I can't help you with the manual for that model of saw, but you will need a round lower blade holder. Ask for older style lower blade holder at the factory. It sounds like you might need a new upper blade holder T knob also. You can check the factory for those parts and manual for a Pro model saw. If you have any questions about set up or problems with your saw I can help you with those. I worked at RBI for ten years and put thousands of hours on Hawk saws. I guess thats the reason I owen three Rbi saws. Congrat's again on your new saw.

Hey Steve,
It sounds like Tim and I have different models. Are the manuals universal, or will mine be of no help to him?
