I have been having trouble with my 3/4 in pieces. I have been having excessive chatter (piece bouncing up and down on the blade). Is there a trick to preventing this? thanks! |

what size blade are you using? I use a #7 . Sometimes you just have to hang on |

Stupid question, but I have to ask? Are the teeth pointing down? That can cause some tremendous chatter. Everyone gets one in upside down or even backwards every now and then.

I usually get the chatter when cutting 3/4" hardwoods using #7 or #9 blades with reverse teeth, and making turns. Cutting straight is OK. Blades without reverse teeth I have fewer or no chatter problems. waynemn |

I was using #5 RT blades, it only happens with the 3/4 in wood, which is what I am using when making puzzles..

Odds are it's not the blade if your project is jumping off the table. Most often it will be the saw. If a saw can't keep constent tension when it is cutting this will cause this problem. I don't know what saw you have but if you have a bad bearing, this will create a change in tension on every stroke the saw makes. Check to see if you have blade whip or blade flutter side to side motion of blade running at high speed. If you have every under tension a saw and cut with it, the blade will grab the wood and chatter on the table. To get a clean smooth square cut, a saw must keep exact tension WHEN IT'S CUTTING. One question are you breaking blades alot.

FWIW The only time I have had this problem so far is when pushing the feed rate too quick.... I had a trivet 3/4" oak that chattered to hard I stuttered for about ten minutes. "Polished" the back of the blade, Slowed the feed down, and kept the wood firmly against the table, no more problems. Upside down blade will definately do it tooo LOL BTDT |

Another huge factor is your wood itself. Does it sit flat on the table? If it is cupped, bowed, or twisted, as you cut and move your hands holding the wood, your downward pressure on the wood will cause it to bind the blade a little and could cause it to "chatter" .Check to see if your wood is perfectly flat to rule out that possibility. And, is it possible you are just trying to go to quickly?
