Does anyone have proven method for using the proper spacing for lettering on plaques. Is it better to trace lettering or to cut lettering out of paper and glue it on the piece. If anyone has a proven method or technique to get the lettering looking professional for a new person to scrolling. Thanks!

Your best bet is to create the pattern first and then attach the pattern to the wood.

Hi------I personally place my words on my plaque after I have postioned the main design on the wood.------with regards to letters I use two methods depending on the font I want to use-------if I use the computer I type it out and play with the spacing again depending on the font-----if I use the computer font then I make sure I put a border line around the complete set up and under each line of words-------then when I place the wording on the plaque I can square up the lines with the edge of the wood-----this way it helps me ensure that the cuts are all in a straight line and equally spaced on both sides and balance from pattern to bottom of the plaque--------hope suggestions may be of help----------happy scrolling-------Tom

I either use steve goods scroll saw pattern maker if I want something smaller or I make up the sign in word and shape it the way i want it and then it is very precise for spacing. Use word art in WORD it is very easy to do and you can underline for a reference point.
